Almost Famous (2000)

directed by Cameron Crowe
with: Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Kate Hudson, Jason Lee, Patrick Fugit, Anna Paquin, Fairuza Balk, Noah Taylor, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Zooey Deschannel

A film about a young boy who aspires to be a rock journalist. His dream is to be fulfilled when he is assigned by The Rolling Stone to write an article about a rock band.

Almost Famous tries to explain the concept of rock 'n roll from different points of view. The overprotective and lovable mother (McDormand) who sees it as a bad influence for her children, driving them away from her. The hardcore fans (Deschannel, Hudson) who live for it. The band itself. The uncool boy (Fugit) who dreams of becoming a rock-journalist. We also see rock as a business, a passion, a lifestyle, a hypocrite, and an unreal world. But the more notable one, is that rock n' roll is an escape from reality that offers freedom to some extent and may positively or negatively influence people. Almost Famous also tries to help understand the reality about the differences of being cool and uncool. And when the uncool and the cool meet, the tour begins on the road to maturity.

Recommended.
